The FDA allows foods with less than 5 calories per serving size to be marketed as 0 calorie foods.

Now, youu2019re right, health clone, sometimes, the calorie intake IS so minimal, we really donu2019t have to worry. According to Quite Healthy Technologies, a regular can of Coke Zero actually has one calorie, which, as much as Iu2019d like them to be honest with me, I can let slide. I mean, itu2019s just a calorie. Also, I donu2019t drink soda. So that doesnu2019t really matter, but what are some cases that do? Splenda, the famous zero calorie sweetener, actually has 4 calories.

It claims it has no fat, and no calories, a lofty claim which, Iu2019m sure by now weu2019re all quite suspicious of. Look a little closer here, and notice it has a serving size of just 1 measly spray.

Thatu2019s it! >> BRIAN REGAN: Whou2019s coming up with serving sizes? A serving size of ice cream is a half a cup. What is that? Is that like a joke some guy put on there? Hey, come here, look what I put as the serving size? Did you see? I just did it as a joke but theyu2019re going out like that. In reality, there are 4 calories in 5 sprays and this entire bottle contains 1,130 sprays.

Thatu2019s a lot of sprays!! So, after doing some math put math on screen, we find out that there are, in reality, there are 904 calories in this u201cI Canu2019t Believe Itu2019s Not Butter!u201d bottle, and itu2019s marketed as zero calories alternative. Letu2019s just let that sink in for a sec. OK! Even if you eat a McDonaldu2019s Big Mac, Cup of Fries, and a kidu2019s sized ice cream, you would still have to eat 94 more calories to consume an same amount of calories equal to the amount in this bottle. Which supposedly has 0 calories. >> HEALTH CLONE: Well, ok whatever, Iu2019m just going to eat negative calorie foods like this apple, or this broccoli to burn off those extra calories. >> ALEX: Yea, negative calorie foods donu2019t exist. >> HEALTH CLONE: But I burn off more calories digesting this stuff that are actually in it.

>> ALEX: Where did you learn that? >> HEALTH CLONE: The internet? Itu2019s a common misconception that by just eating apples, or broccoli, or lettuce, or celery or any other low-cal vegetable, you will burn more calories eating and digesting it than you will receive from eating the food. This is simply not true. Every food has a thermic effect. The thermic effect of food is what percentage of a certain foodu2019s calories your body takes to digest that food.

You might also know this as Dietary Induced Thermogenesis or Specific Dynamic Action. Keep in mind: the thermic effect of food only measures how many calories your body will take to digest the food: it doesnu2019t include calories lost from your resting metabolism or from exercise. In the fruits and vegetables world, this number is usually between 5 and 10 percent. So, in this 95 calorie apple, about somewhere between and calories will be burned digesting it. Same logic goes for this spear of broccoli. There are 11 calories, so, by eating this, you body will spend somewhere between .55 and calories digesting it. Donu2019t get me wrong, these foods are very healthy for you and you should eat them, but donu2019t think youu2019re burning calories just by digesting these things.

There is one true negative calorie u201cfood.u201d There is a super u201cfoodu201d out there that actually does take more calories digesting then gives your body. So what is this u201cfoodu201d? Drumroll please… I am alone in my room. Add in a drum roll sound effect please! *Drumroll sound effect* Ice water! Yea, itu2019s not technically a food, but, you have to acknowledge that negative calorie or 0 calories foods simply donu2019t exist. This is the closest we can get. >> HEALTH CLONE: Awesome! But why is Ice Water a negative calorie food? >> ALEX: Good question! Water itself has 0 calories, so if you’re looking for a great, no cal drink, there ya go. But ice water is particularly calorie burning, because, once you drink it, your body has to expend energy raising the temperature of the water to your body temperature, and that takes calories! How many calories? Well, thereu2019s an equation for that! Q = Delta T * c * m. What does this mean? Well, Q is the number of calories we burn.

This is what weu2019re trying to find. Delta T is the change in temperature in celsius, because science is in celsius. Or Kelvin, but in our case, celsius. To find the change in temperature, subtract the initial temperature, or the pre-burn temperature of the water from the final temperature, or the post-burn temperature of the water. c is the specific heat of water. In our scenario, this is 1 calorie per gram celsius, but it can be written as joules per gram celsius. And m is the mass of the water. When finding the mass of the water, remember that 1 ml of water has a mass equivalent to 1 gram. Anywho, all that being said, letu2019s solve this equation! First, letu2019s find out values. Ice water is 0 degrees celsius, and our body temperature is 37 degrees, so our change in temperature is 0 minus 37, or -37 degrees celsius. Now, itu2019s important that this number is negative. That means that our final answer, Q, will be negative, which we burn calories. In our scenario, weu2019ll use an standard 8 oz cup of water, which has a mass of 2grams, and, of course, the specific heat of water is 1 calorie per gram celsius.

After doing a bit of math, we find that drinking 8 oz of ice water burns about calories. Assuming you drink 8 glasses of ice water a day, each of which are 8 oz., then, after a year, you burn 24,528 calories, which is not nothing! Assuming burning 3,500 calories equates to burning a pound of fat, which is an oversimplification, but good enough for our purposes, you burn just about 7 pounds of fat a year from drinking ice water…. Also, water has many other health benefits, but you know. One important note to end on, while drinking ice water can have notable, positive impacts, that doesnu2019t mean you donu2019t have to exercise and eat sugar all day. While this is a great way to complement an overall healthy diet and an active lifestyle, thereu2019s no replacement for that. Being in good shape takes work, but if you can the most beneficial thing you can do.

Being active and eating right reduces your risk for many diseases, improves sleep, self confidence, and stress levels, and helps you live a longer, better life. The Best Macros For Cutting

Hey what’s up guys, Sean Nalewanyj here of SeanNal.com and BodyTransformationTruth.com and in this video I want to outline my recommended macros for cutting that are going to maximize fat loss while minimizing muscle loss during a fat loss phase. So without question the single most important factor that you need to pay attention to when it comes to losing body fat consistently is dietary control, so managing what you eat, and how much you eat throughout the day.

A good combination of weight training and cardio is definitely important in order to encourage muscle retention and to actively burn more calories, but nutrition is the one area where the overwhelming majority of fat loss trainees go wrong. And this is simply because it allows for a way larger margin for error. At the most, you’re probably going to be spending around 3-5 percent of your total time at the gym, and that means that the time you spend outside of the gym eating and recovering makes up the other 95-97 percent and thatu2019s a lot of time, a lot of meals and a lot of food choices where things can go off course. In addition, itu2019s way easier for you to consume a significant number of calories than it is for you to burn them. 45 minutes on the treadmill might help you burn around 400 calories, but just 10 minutes spent consuming one additional medium sized meal and you’re going to replace those calories just as quickly. The fact that consistent exercise also stimulates your appetite doesnu2019t help the cause either because many people will train hard in the gym and then simply over-eat in the hours afterwards without even realizing it.

It really doesnu2019t matter how u201chealthyu201d you eat. If you go overboard on the total number of calories that you consume you’re not going to burn an ounce of fat. So if you really want to strip off around 1-2 pounds of pure body fat consistently every week (and this is the general recommended pace that I recommend you go at) then you must consume a properly structured diet that allows you to maintain a net calorie deficit over time from a well-balanced combination of high quality proteins, carbs and fats. Otherwise, you may end up just completely wasting your time at the gym altogether. So hereu2019s how I recommend structuring things. Put your calories at 15-20 percent below your maintenance level. Put your protein at 1 gram per pound of body weight daily. Fats at 20 percent of your total calories and carbohydrates at whatever amount of calories remains after your protein and your fat is calculated. I donu2019t care how you lay this out, whether it be 6 small meals a day or 2 to 3 large meals, just focus on hitting these macronutrient numbers each day and you will lose fat at or near your maximum potential.

In fact, this one step alone will be responsible for the vast majority of your fat burning results. There is of course no such thing as one absolute best macronutrient structure for cutting that’s going to work optimally for every single person in every situation, but this is a very reliable breakdown that will work well for the majority people. It will keep you in a net calorie deficit that is large enough to stimulate significant fat loss, but also small enough to keep your lean muscle tissue intact.

It’s going to provide you with enough protein in order to maximize muscle recovery and retention in between workouts, enough fat to keep your mood, your energy levels and your hormone balance in check, and enough carbohydrates in order to keep your training performance near its peak. Also note that the exact macronutrient numbers outlined should be treated as an overall estimation. Hitting your total calorie target is quite important and should be aimed for within a hundred calories or so every day if you do want to see the very best results, but itu2019s not absolutely critical from a fat burning perspective that you consume exactly 178 grams of protein and exactly 68 grams of fat every day. Obsessing about this could actually do you more harm than good, and as long as you come somewhat close to those numbers you’re going to be fine. So if you want to skip the manual calculations altogether, you can just go straight to my Free Macronutrient Calculator that automates the entire process altogether for you using this exact macronutrient breakdown and I’ll link that in the description box below, or you can can learn how to figure this out all on your own using the following steps.

For calories, first you’re going to need to calculate your basal metabolic rate, which is the number of calories that you burn at rest, and I’ll put that up on the screen here in just a second. Then take that number and multiply it by your activity level. And this will give you your calorie maintenance level, which is the total number of calories that youu2019d need to consume each day in order to maintain your current weight. So now you’re just going to take that number and multiply it by and 0.85, and this is going to give you a daily calorie target for fat loss that is 15-20 percent below your maintenance level. Protein intake is going to be based on your overall body weight at 1 gram per pound daily. So, if you weigh 190 pounds, youu2019re simply going to shoot for 190 grams of protein.

And keep in mind that 1 kilogram is equal to pounds. This obviously isn’t a perfect figure and it can vary depending on your lean body mass as well as a variety of other factors, however, it is a very reliable starting point for those on a cut, and obsessing about a few grams of protein here and there really isnu2019t going to do you any good anyway. Fats contain 9 calories per gram, so youu2019re simply going to multiply your total calorie intake by and then divide by 9 and that’s going to give you the total grams of fat to consume each day. And for carbohydrates just add together the protein calories (protein contains 4 calories per gram) and the total fat calories which you already have from the previous step, and then subtract that number from your total daily calorie intake, and what that’s going to do is give you the total number of calories in your diet that will be derived from carbohydrates.

Then you’re just going to take that number and divide it by 4 because carbohydrate contain 4 calories per gram and that’s going to give you the total daily grams of carbohydrates that you need. So you now have a very reliable starting point in place for your total daily calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates for maximum fat loss. So follow this breakdown consistently in combination with a properly structured weight training and cardio routine, and you can expect to lose somewhere between 1-2 pounds of pure body fat every single week. It may not sound like a lot, but it does add up very quickly and that represents a total fat loss of between 12-24 pounds over just a 3 month period. Remember, you always want to go about your cutting phase in a controlled and gradual pace, otherwise youu2019ll be putting your hard-earned lean muscle tissue at risk. As you lose more fat and get leaner, you can either re-adjust your calories and macronutrients or increase your activity level. So when your weight loss has stalled for a period of about 1-2 weeks, go ahead and decrease your calories by about 150 and then re-calculate your macros, or throw in an additional cardio session or two throughout the week.

And you can also do a combination of both of course. For example, you could shave off 100 calories and then perform one extra cardio workout for example. So thanks for watching this video lesson. How to Lose Weight with the Atkins Diet | Diet Plan

Hi, my name is Lisa Moskovitz and I’m a registered dietitian and certified in the state of New York, with a private practice on the upper east side. I specialize in weight management, exercise and sports nutrition. And I’ll be talking to you about diets First off, we have the Atkins Diet. Everyone knows this diet, it’s very popular, and probably most of you have even tried it. What is the Atkins diet? Well, the Atkins Diet was created by a cardiologist, Dr. Atkins, and his philosophy, his theory, was that by reducing carbohydrates, we actually increase our metabolism and our fat-burning process. The more carbohydrates we eat, the higher our insulin levels go. What happens when our insulin levels increase is that we turn off our fat-burning process.

So by reducing carbohydrates, we naturally produce less insulin and therefore we increase our fat burning process, which increases our metabolism. This particular diet, like most, is broken down into phases. The first phase is about two weeks long and this is supposed to reduce your cravings, detox your body, and really get you to reduce your carbohydrates significantly so that you set yourself up for weight loss long term. The good part about this diet is that it does promote a low refined carbohydrate diet, and what refined carbohydrates are is anything that has been processed, so cakes, cookies, anything that contains a lot of carbohydrates that cause a dramatic increase in your blood sugars and then of course what goes up must come down.

So after your blood sugars decrease, you end up feeling fatigued, experience more cravings ,and that’s how you get addicted to carbohydrates. The cons are that it promotes a high saturated fat intake. High amounts of saturated fat are directly linked to heart disease, so I wouldn’t recommend it to people with heart disease , and because it happens to be very low in carb, I wouldn’t recommend it for highly active individuals..
